ABOUT HOBSONS BAY

Hobsons Bay Community Centres acknowledges the peoples of the Kulin nation as the Traditional Owners of the lands and water ways. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

Hobsons Bay is situated at the northern end of Port Philip Bay. It covers an area approx. 66 square kilometres and has over 20kms of coastland.  Hobsons Bay is made up of the suburbs of Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North , Brooklyn, Laverton, Seabrook, Seaholme, South Kingsville, Spotswood, Williamstown and Williamstown North.  Each suburb has its own unique character and history. 

Hobsons Bay was named after Captain William Hobson who led the surveying part in Port Philip Bay in the 1800`s. The city of Hobsons Bay was also named after him. The City of Hobsons Bay is the local government area and was founded on 22 June 1994.

Hobson Bay has good access to the city and transport such as the West Gate Freeway, Western Ring Road, City Link, National Rail line, Metro trains and Buses.

There are 9 Community Centres in Hobsons Bay and 2 Community Hubs.  Eight of the community centres are also Neighbourhood houses. These centres provide affordable programs and activities suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.
