Altona Meadows Community Centre

The Altona Meadows Community Centre was established in 1991 as a result of the recommendations of a Recreation Needs Study conducted in 1988 and covering the Cities of Altona and Werribee. The study, which surveyed households throughout the two cities, found that Altona Meadows was a quickly developing area, but with very limited transport and childcare services, and very few facilities for leisure and recreation.  The number of young families in the area was much higher than regional and national averages.

These recommendations guided the design of the Altona Meadows Community Centre, which was officially opened on the 5th of May 1991.

Our Planning Principles:

  • Universal access
  • Education & Training
  • Community Participation & Management
  • Culturally & developmentally responsive
  • Flexible provision
  • Community development
  • Local planning and coordination

Community Café

Community Café runs from the centre every Friday at 12 noon with affordable 3 course meal and a friendly welcoming environment. Why not come down with a few friends, enjoy a home cooked meal and support your local community. Bookings are essential and we ask that you try to book by the Thursday of each week.

Contact: 8368 0177 for bookings.

Occasional Care

Hobsons Bay City Council operates occasional care for all families of Hobsons Bay who require care for a child under six years age.

How can I access this service?
Once registered, families can access either permanent (per term) or casual bookings. Each term 10 permanent places are made available in each session. The booking date and process for booking these 10 places is advertised in advance. The remaining five places are booked casually by telephone each week.

A waiting list is created if needed and families will be contacted if a place becomes available. An enrolment form must be completed prior to a child attending a session.

Families who live, work or pay rates in Hobsons Bay will be given priority access to the program. Families who don’t meet this criteria will be placed on a waiting list and offered places if they become available.

Occasional Child Care runs from the centre every Thursday & Friday.
